Under the Standard Employment Contract for foreign domestic helpers, the employer must either provide free food or pay a food allowance so the helper can buy her own food. The minimum food allowance is set by the Hong Kong government and is updated from time to time.
If you provide food, it must be sufficient and suitable. If you pay a food allowance instead, you must pay at least the minimum amount required. The current minimum can be checked on the Labour Department website or by contacting the department directly.
